Taking my notes with me

Some of my many, many notebooks

Some of my many, many notebooks

I’ve mentioned my tendency to keep notebooks everywhere to jot down thoughts, lists, etc. I start with the intention of keeping one notebook per subject… one for the house, one for writing ideas, one for sketches, one for research, etc. It never quite happens that way, and I wind up blindly grabbing whichever is closest to me and scribbling away as quickly as I can before I lose the thought.

With the Creatives Cook series about to make it’s debut, I’m doing a little better at keeping these specific notes in one place.  However, since I actually have to leave the house with my notes and my quest for most or all of my everyday objects to be beautiful, I think this project deserves a special notebook.

This journal at Elum Designs is elegant and useful.  And it would look good sitting on he grey leather seat in car while I’m jetting around town.  Am I going too far with my aesthetic vision, here?

Red is my favorite color, and this Italian wrap notebook from Aspinal of London will fit easily into my purse.

Also, Patricia at pve designs recently wrote a post about a notebook that she is considering making available.  I love her illustrations, which bring out the beauty in our everyday surroundings.  I’ll be looking at her site regularly to see if the notebook makes it’s debut.

Where do you keep your notes?

WOW…I am a notebook/sketchbook/journal collector. I have hard cover, wire bound, lined, unlined, big, small, decorative, plain, handmade…And I’m not consistent at ALL in how I use them. Most of them get started and then abandoned when I find a new one I like.

One can start as a sketchbook, then turn into a personal journal, or an idea grabber. I’ve finally started carrying around little pocket-sized moleskine notebooks for jotting down ideas/info on the go. They fit in my pocket nicely and I can transfer the info to wherever it needs to go when I get home. THAT whole process, however, is another story… :)

And you definitely need that Elum Empress Journal. ;)

  • I am a Moleskin girl myself. http://www.moleskineus.com/moleskine-books.html They are the best. I love the elastic closure and the simple pocket fold on the interior cover. The paper is the color of a manila folder. I love the color – so nostolgic – not to mention easy on the eyes!!
