Branching out

As freelance assignments have been picking up, I thought it might be a good idea to market myself.  It’s one of those things that tend to make introvert-extrovert hybrids like myself a touch uncomfortable.  Think about it. I go out of my way to lock myself into a room with my computer and my books. Alone. Once I step out of my office I’m always happy to see my family and friends… I am definitely not a hermit, but I like to keep my interactions in the right balance for the opposing parts of my personality.  Having a website in my name, with my face on it and using it in part to sell myself to readers, editors and social media perusers was a terrifying idea. Add to that my fear of appearing vain and on the surface this seemed like an awful idea!  However, I enjoy my work tremendously, so I talked myself through it with the help of my husband and a couple of dear friends who have known me for hundreds of years.

The result went live this week.  ShaniGilchrist.com is up and will continuously be updated with my published work and personal essays (in the blog section). CamilleMaurice.com was created in the hopes of starting conversations about design, lifestyle, the arts, etc. I harbor the same hope for the professional site, but am attempting it through my Facebook page. If you like something you see (or don’t), head over there and chat about it. Conversation fosters ideas and, in turn, helps me to write better, right? So please, go and press “like” on the page so we can continue our fun in other arenas.

Thank you, and I look forward to learning more about all of you through this process!
